Death and Vengeance

Another great read as per usual, great mix of plot and action to keep reader going to the end.

Wow what an epic novel. It was a long journey but this chapter of the Sabel Security series is over. Mr James is a very good writer. On to the next book.

This might only reflect on Seeley James trying some product placement for a future contract with Frito-Lay/PepsiCo, but the word does turn up 33 times in scenes depicting the White House.Readers who were enraged by Seeley James' savaging of Donald Trump through his character Chuck Roche, in previous novels (the latter word being pronounced as "Roach" by those who do not love him, and by his lackies as "Row-SHAY") need, of course, to avoid this one. Roche's megalomania builds to the point where he declares himself "Zenith Man", the pinnacle of man’s achievement. Not quite emperor status, like Kim Jong-un, which apparently involved not having an anus.All individuals serving at the White House are treacherous self-serving politicians. Sabel Security operatives engage in intense gun battles, usually outnumbered by their enemies, and hampered by their requirement to use non-lethal rounds. To Seeley’s credit, the buildup of those gunfights, the firefights themselves, and the aftermaths, have a kind of actual military cachet, unlike too many other authors who write as if for bad-straight-to-DVD/Netflix consumption.I thoroughly like the character Pia Sabel, and all of the other female employees at Sabel Security. Each is uniquely different from the others. The males at Sabel continue to be well-muscled warriors, each with an interesting backstory, and Seeley James’ new character – Rick – shares central character Jacob Stearne’s issues with PTSD, which the author treats in a fairly compassionate and supportive way. Of course, Jacob Stearne continues to be laden with the burden of the God Mercury whose interventions both helpful and confounding continue to be a Seeley James readers’ favourite.My rating is a 3.5 star, rounded up. I didn’t dislike this one enough to settle on three stars. And I will purchase the next one in the series – Death and Conspiracy – more out of habit, than for any other reason. And for me, this particular habit is far more benign than some of my other ones.

Another chapter in the saga of Pia and associates. A story full of intrigue and action that is frighteningly realistic. A book you'll want to keep reading no mater how late.
